The Town of Corydon, with a population of 3,122 residents, is located in Harrison County Indiana. Corydon was the first state capital until the legislature made a move to its current location of Indianapolis in 1825. Corydon and Harrison County are rich in history, as evidenced by the many historic properties, caves, and landmarks easily found within this small area.
In 2016, Corydon was designated a winner in the Indiana Stellar competition program. The leadership in Corydon is currently using this opportunity to bring vitality and life to this small town, moving it into the future, while still striving to maintain the rich, historic past and beloved hometown ambiance.
“Many things are happening around Corydon this summer. We have a water main replacement job set to start mid-August in the Wiseman Addition area of town. This includes Slemmons, McKinster and Popular Streets. The job is scheduled for 9 weeks from beginning to final clean-up. We are conducting sewer main cleaning and re-lining at various locations around town. We bid this out earlier in the year and Miller Pipeline was awarded the contract. We also have about 75 manholes that will be rehabbed this summer. That too was bid out and Advanced Rehab Technology was awarded that work.
We also started some concrete & blacktop removal at the planned Skate Park area in June. The rest of that demolition work will be bid out and finished later in the year. We are actively working to raise funds with our Skate Park partners, Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Corydon, and the Harrison County Community Foundation. Anyone wishing to purchase a “brick” or make another donation should contact Lisa Long at the Chamber. We really appreciate Lisa’s work to assist us with raising funds. The Chamber is a real asset to our community.
You may also have seen a survey team collecting data along E Chestnut ST in June. This team is gathering preliminary data so that we can begin an Urban Traill Project. This project is funded in large part with Federal Highway dollars through INDOT. While still in the planning phase, the project should begin at the slab bridge on Mulberry ST and end at the planned Skate Park. It will be a multi-use sidewalk allowing walking and biking.
Outside of town limits we have several apartments being built. The town will provide water and sewer service to the Chapman Crossing apartments at Poolside DR. This will have 48 total units. We will provide sewer service to the 64-unit Harrison apartments being built on Hwy 337 at Corydon Ramsey RD. Also in the works are 92 units at the Landmark apartments being built behind the new Duncan Donuts on Landmark AV, where we will also provide water and sewer. And finally in the Walmart parking lot, a new Zaxby’s restaurant is now under construction, also on town utilities.”
